An anti-violence prevention Youth project, that includes a special creative writing, counseling program for at-risk children afffected by torture, traumatic dislocation, refugee status or other family factors called "Writing from the Darkness."

The Hopi Foundation

Hopi Foundation Endowment Fund was started in 1994 with $20,000 and has grown to half a million dollars. All individual designated/undesignated donations are submitted to this fund that is managed by the Arizona Community Foundation. 

The Hopi Foundation Endowment Fund provides annually:

$4,200 for the administration of the Hopi Foundation;

 

$10,000 in mini-grants for "Hopis helping Hopi people" projects;

 

$10,000 for the Annual Barbara Chester Award recognizing the work of a clinician working with victims of torture in any pocket of the world;  

 

$3,000 for the Steven Thayer Art Scholarship, that awards $1,000 scholarships to three Hopi college students studying in the field of the arts.

An outgrowth of the Hopiikwa Lavaytutuveni (Hopi Language Dictionary) published in 1998 to maintain and enhance the viability of the Hopi language in the community. Currently providing stipends to college students to develop curriculum.

PFC Lori Piestewa Scholarship Fund in memory of Hopi Army Pfc. Lori Piestewa, the first Native American woman killed while providing service and commitment to her country.

A permanent endowment to help Native Americans with their college education, created in April 2003 in partnership with the Arizona Community Foundation and the Tuba City Foundation.
